Howard is a fourteen-time Oliver / Tony Award winning / nominated Lighting Designer. His work has been seen all over the world including New York, Paris, Sydney, Las Vegas and in the West End of London.

Howard recently won the Olivier for Best Lighting Designer for the second time for his work on hugely successful revival of City of Angels at the Donmar, having previously won in 2012 for his work on Rupert Goold’s production of Macbeth which electrified audiences in Chichester, London and New York.

He has been nominated for the Olivier Awards on 10 other occasions for shows including West End musicals Mary Poppins, Ragtime, The Witches of Eastwick and Guys and Dolls and West End plays such as Anna Christie, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Private Lives, Tales from Hollywood and The Tempest.

He has twice been nominated for New York’s hugely prestigious Tony Awards for his work on Mary Poppins and Macbeth on Broadway.

His work on Anna Christie at the Donmar Warehouse earned him the Knight of Illumination award in 2013 and he won the Australian Green Room award in 2008 for his work on Mamma Mia!

Other recent work includes Saint Joan, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Mamma Mia!, The Truth, Impossible!, Neville’s Island, The Pajama Game, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Importance of Being Earnest and Harvey all in the West End. And in the rest of the world, Swan Lake (Royal Albert Hall), Hamlet (Shanghai Ballet), Strictly Gershwin (Queensland Ballet), The Barber of Seville (Lyric Opera Chicago) and Nabucco (Metropolitan Opera, New York City)
